The embattled Red Wings will have an uphill struggle ahead of them as they enter the ice of the Jobing.com Arena to face the team they eliminated in Game 7 of the Conference Quarter-Finals last season.
Why an uphill struggle? Well, the Wings just had a shocker in Dallas as they never really got out of the gate, losing 4-1. Worse than that however, is the fact that arguably the Wings' best player so far this season, Johan Franzen, has been added to the already crowded list of injured players.
So crowded in fact, Mike Babcock has been forced to dress 11 forwards. With a little luck we'll actually see some returns from injury, with a lot of players "day-to-day" and hopefully not too far away. Maybe with a little more luck, we'll see a cease to this rash of injuries that has been the opening act this season.
The Coyotes have only played two games so far this season as they've sat a week awaiting their home-opener tonight after a split series with Boston at the NHL Premiere in Europe. Whether or not this plays into Detroit's favor remains to be seen.
